Text
It was three years ago and more,
That we to Topo came
And landed on its beauteous shore
And camped upon the same
We left our friends and homes behind
And struck for weal and wore,
To build new homes in foreign lands
‘Way down in Mexico
Chorus:
Our noble leader, Owen brave,
We know that he is true,
We trusted him to lead us on
To homes in Mexico.
We’ve worked and toiled these weary years
In sunshine and in rain,
We’ve suffered disappointment oft,
But tried anew again.
But now we see our morning star
Arising in the east,
We’ll take new hope and still work on
And do our very best.
Chorus
Co-Operation is our theme
And we shall win the fight
‘Gainst Competition’s selfish greed,
For we are in the right.
With Justice for our motto true,
We win the hearts of each
Who love the golden rule full well
And practice what they preach.
Chorus
Our land is rich, our waters pure,
Our air salubrious,
Our climate is the best on earth,
Our sunshine glorious.
With mountain, plain and valleys grand
And bays and rivers bright,
With many a mile of waveworn coast
Foaming with silvery light.
Chorus
With such adventures as these
Why should we not succeed,
If we but work in harmony
And not in selfish greed.
If in our workshops and our mills
We work with proper skills,
Our orchards, farms and gardens too,
And every station fill.
Chorus
And when our steamships plow the seas,
And railroads span the land,
Then we shall reap a rich reward -
A civilization grand.
Then to all people we shall be
A bright and shining light -
A good example - a morning star
To guide them in the right.
Chorus
And when this work for us is done
And we have gone to rest,
We’ll leave the work to other hands,
Still hoping for the best.
And may the work bravely on,
Though we are hid from view
We still shall make our presence felt
To friends in Mexico.
